Unlike single malt production, Single Grain Scotch Whisky can be made from a variety of grains or cereal types and is distilled through continuous distillation. This means that the resultant spirit flows from the stills with a more refined character. Modern misconceptions on this process mean that grain whisky is often overshadowed by its more famous malt counterpart. This is a narrative that needs rewriting.
However, at Claxton’s we know that mature grain whisky, aged in the best oak casks, can result in an excellent dram. Matured and bottled at Claxton’s, this 30-year-old single grain whisky has benefitted from traditional style warehousing in the former grain stores of Sandbed Farm on the Dalswinton Estate. During maturation, grain whisky gains a distinctive flavour, and draws its colour from the cask, enhancing the grain spirit’s distinctive characteristics.
The Grain Barn name represents the heritage of grain production in the Lowlands. Surrounded by grain fields, the former grain barns at Claxton’s Dalswinton Bond make an ideal location to bring grain whisky back into the limelight. Grain Barn is an opportunity to experience a remarkable dram from an under-recognised source.
Introducing the Grain Barn, the latest release from Claxton's. Created to bring grain whisky production into the limelight, this 30 year old Single Grain Scotch Whisky is a shining example of just how exceptional grain whisky can be.
